Jonathan & Angela Wheatley

Owner and Creative Projects Director

Jonathan Wheatley is the owner of Stamford and Rutland Garden Maintenance. In a wide and varied career including being a Top 10 Bestselling novelist on Amazon, a professional artist, a villa garden maintenance man in Corfu, and an estate agent, he has learned a range of skills including customer service, integrity and honesty and creativity which he brings daily to his gardening company.

“My garden is my haven, it’s where I go to when I’m stressed, it’s where I go to relax, and it’s where I go when I want to socialise, and I want to help other people achieve the same feeling in their own garden.”

In an effort to break free from the 9-5 office lifestyle, in the summer of 2023, with encouragement from his partner and family, he pushed forward with creating a gardening company with a difference. He heard many tales of gardeners who would cut lawns and trim hedges, but didn’t know a thing about plants. So, with an already existing knowledge of horticulture passed down through his family including an RHS Chelsea Gold Award winning grandfather and an uncle who is a well-known TV personality’s personal gardener, he started a diploma in horticulture and set out to help people in his local village.

“I work hard to constantly learn as much as possible about plants, trees and shrubs, so we can prune and trim at the correct time to achieve the best results, while also being able to help people understand why their borders may have not worked in the past. My main aim is to help people create the perfect garden for themselves and their family.”

Two year's later, and with some of the largest homes in prestigious villages around Rutland and Stamford being regularly maintained, Jon has now opened a new chapter in his story. Stamford and Rutland Garden Maintenance have moved primarily into private estates and large historic gardens, which means plants, plants, plants, and into corporate work, elevating school and college gardens in Stamford and Rutland.

“Businesses grow. And as such, with fantastic reviews and the elevated gardening we do, the obvious next step was to move into private large estates and historic gardens to help bring them back to their former glory with a horticulture-first approach.”
